  • UmbrellaID Workshop: Keycloak

    3 May 2022

UmbrellaID Workshop: Keycloak https://pan-training.eu/events/umbrellaid-workshop-keycloak-d8972614-b411-4bb5-93e4-4d4c6660b0aa UmbrellaID is the federated identity system for the users of the (European) large neutron and photon facilities. This one day training is dedicated to the PaN community IT people that want to enable community AAI for their users. At the end of the training it is expected that you understand what UmbrellaID and the EOSC AAI federation is. A hands on session shall demonstrate how to integrate your services with UmbrellaID using Keycloak. If you want to actively participate in the hands on session, you need to have your own Keycloak installation, see the following checklist. If you don't have that, you can still participate in the workshop and also take part in the hands on session as an observer. Checklist for the hands on session: * An installation of keycloak * Internet access from the host where they have installed keycloak (ideally direct access, but HTTP proxy and reverse HTTP proxy are also valid) * DNS resolution for the host with keycloak installed should be in place and should be identical from everywhere (I.E. the machine should be referenced with the same domain name from the RI/lab intranet and public internet network) * A valid X509 server certificate 2022-05-03 09:30:00 UTC 2022-05-03 16:30:00 UTC ExPaNDS WP3 in collaboration with GEANT, ESRF and PS [] [] IT [] [] UmbrellaIDKeycloak

  • Online workshop for the Virtual Infrastructure for Scientific Analysis (VISA) platform

    16 September 2022

Online workshop for the Virtual Infrastructure for Scientific Analysis (VISA) platform https://pan-training.eu/events/online-workshop-for-the-virtual-infrastructure-for-scientific-analysis-visa-platform-e4a28e7e-dee0-42a7-812f-622e942ddf49 On Friday, 16th September, from 11:00 to 16:00 CEST, PaNOSC and ExPaNDS will jointly host the dedicated online workshop for the Virtual Infrastructure for Scientific Analysis (VISA) platform. VISA provides remote data analysis services giving access to experimental data, analysis software, compute infrastructure and expert-user support (IT and Scientific). The online half-day Workshop is open to all external stakeholders (especially scientists and IT staff but not limited to). We aim to demonstrate to beamline scientists the possibilities offered by VISA for data analysis and gathering IT staff around the table to discuss about the development and further deployment of the platform. VISA has been developed at a critical time (during the COVID-19 crisis) to answer data analysis needs and allowing remote instrument control. It provides simplified access for scientists to data analysis tools, offers remote support to users from experts and allows them to remotely control their experiments with the assistance of on-site instrument scientists. VISA allows a user to use the Remote Desktop as if they were sitting in front a data treatment workstation at the host institute and embeds JupyterLab directly accessible from the same platform interface. Initially developed at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France and further deployed in the context of PaNOSC, VISA enables the PaN research infrastructures (PaN RIs) to work together on further scientific collaborations to solve 21st century challenges. The first session of the workshop will be a great opportunity to showcase the implementation of VISA at the PaN RIs through ExPaNDS and PaNOSC partner’ demos and illustrate its use for scientific users and others. The second session in the afternoon will focus on presentations on VISA development and deployment (on OpenStack and other infrastructures), paving the way for a roundtable discussion on the future of VISA: sustainability and future collaborations. Register for the event and review the draft agenda, whilst also saving the date in your diary! 2022-09-16 11:00:00 UTC 2022-09-16 16:00:00 UTC [] [] [] workshops_and_courses [] []
  • PaNOSC and ExPaNDS initiatives towards Open Data for the Photon and Neutron (PaN) Community

    3 November 2022

PaNOSC and ExPaNDS initiatives towards Open Data for the Photon and Neutron (PaN) Community https://pan-training.eu/events/panosc-and-expands-initiatives-towards-open-data-for-the-photon-and-neutron-pan-community ExPaNDS work package 3 (WP3) partners together with their PaNOSC counterparts would like to invite you to participate in our upcoming online workshop taking place at SOLEIL. These two projects joined their efforts to provide valuable ready to use services (data catalogues, search APIs) which are in the process of being onboarded to the EOSC, for Research Infrastructures (RIs) to offer access as a one-stop-shop for scientific facility users, academics and the general public to find and exploit research data. These services are the first important building block developed by the PaN facilities to pave the road to more global integrated Open Data and Open Science services for the PaN scientific community and beyond. This session is organised as a satellite event of an internal joint ExPaNDS & PaNOSC project meeting. This session will be open to all and recorded with a number of presentations highlighting the major outcomes across both projects in relation to data catalogues. We invite you to register for this event and please feel free to have a look at our tentative agenda below: Tentative agenda 11:00-to 12:30 - Public session • Data Catalogue overview and example of implementation • Added value from ExPaNDS and PaNOSC projects • Future perspective For more materials and documentation about the metadata catalogue, have a look at the [metadata catalogue workflow](https://pan-training.eu/workflows/metadata-catalogue-services)! • ExPaNDS Closing Event

    23 - 24 January 2023

    Hamburg, Germany

ExPaNDS Closing Event https://pan-training.eu/events/expands-closing-event We are glad to announce the ExPaNDS closing event, to be held in Hamburg on 23rd to 24th January 2023. For those who may not join in person, there will be the chance to attend remotely. Our final event for ExPaNDS aims to present the opportunity to follow a user story showcasing the major results achieved during the length of the project. Our project contributors will gather to discuss and show case use cases, platforms, FAIR principles and options for the future with a view to sustainability of the tools, software and services developed to make data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) across European Photon and Neutron (PaN) facilities, working towards the implementation of a PaN Data Commons to further contribute to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Furthermore, we will also have invited talks by renown scientists high-lighting the continued importance of #Opendataforopenscience. A hybrid option for both the internal and public sessions will be available. We hope to be able to collect feedback and expectations of PaN scientists on their view on the future of FAIR and open data principles. We also look forward to hearing the latest news on the [DAPHNE4NFDI](https://www.daphne4nfdi.de/) project from our colleagues involved in this grant. 2023-01-23 12:00:00 UTC 2023-01-24 17:00:00 UTC Blomkamp, Hamburg, Germany Blomkamp Hamburg Germany 22607 DESY [] PaN Communitydata managersresearch data scientist meetings_and_conferences [] expandsPhoton scienceneutron researchFAIREOSC
  • ExPaNDS topic-based Webinars

ExPaNDS topic-based Webinars https://pan-training.eu/events/expands-topic-based-webinars We’re pleased to announce our upcoming topic-based webinars which will take place during the coming month before the end of our grant in February 2023. The webinar topics have been selected with the help of our work package leaders and some of the highlighted use cases taken directly from the PaN community throughout our grant. The series will provide a great opportunity to showcase some of the outcomes of our grant to the PaN facility user communities. We will present some key findings from the recently conducted data consultation, which was sent to over 14,000 PaN facility users. The ongoing work of ExPaNDS has been very important to the PaN community and we have invited senior community figures to discuss the future needs and requirements for their respective discipline or technique to keep the momentum going beyond the grant. We will have flash talks from our work packages with focus being on FAIR, data catalogue services, data analysis and an overview of the PaN training platform.
