This one day training is dedicated to the PaN community IT people that want to enable community AAI for their users. At the end of the training it is expected that you understand what UmbrellaID and the EOSC AAI federation is. A hands on session shall demonstrate how to integrate your services with UmbrellaID using Keycloak.
If you want to actively participate in the hands on session, you need to have your own Keycloak installation, see the following checklist. If you don't have that, you can still participate in the workshop and also take part in the hands on session as an observer.
Checklist for the hands on session:
- An installation of Keycloak
- Internet access from the host where they have installed Keycloak (ideally direct access, but HTTP proxy and reverse HTTP proxy are also valid)
- DNS resolution for the host with Keycloak installed should be in place and should be identical from
everywhere (I.E. the machine should be referenced with the same domain name from the RI/lab intranet and public internet network)
- A valid X509 server certificate
The session recordings can be found here:

This deliverable envisions an integrated aDMP system which supports the (semi-)
automated generation of DMPs by maximising reuse of information generated during the
research life-cycle and also aiming to support the scientists and other stakeholders by
supporting information transfer. Therefore, a data model for aDMPs focusing on the
integration of information that exists before a proposal is submitted and its life-cycle
integration is introduced. It relates the data model also to the template created in PaNOSC.

This ExPaNDS project deliverable describes a FAIR self-assessment undertaken by the ten
ExPaNDS partner Photon and Neutron Research Infrastructures (PaN RIs) over the
three-month period July – September 2022. After reviewing selected examples of existing
FAIR evaluation frameworks designed to enable assessment at different levels (dataset,
repository, and organisation), the report describes the evaluation approach adopted for the
ExPaNDS FAIR self-assessment. As no existing framework met our specific need to focus
on FAIR workflows and processes in PaN RIs, it was necessary to select, combine, and
adapt existing frameworks. Supported by four underlying guiding principles, our approach
drew heavily on the FAIR Principles, the RDA FAIR Data Maturity Model, and FAIRsFAIR’s
CoreTrustSeal+FAIRenabling framework. Post-evaluation feedback from ExPaNDS partners
indicated that they found the FAIR self-assessment a useful and valuable exercise for
understanding current levels of FAIRness at their facilities and for articulating what
implementations they have in progress or planned to support FAIR in future. A key output of
the ExPaNDS FAIR evaluation is the collected self-assessment reports from the ten partner
facilities. These reports are published openly and in full as part of the deliverable. In addition,
the self-assessments are supplemented with some high-level observations on the state of
the FAIR journey across the ExPaNDS facilities.

The present deliverable pursues the work initiated in ExPaNDS deliverable 2.2, which established a common metadata framework for FAIR data generated in Photon and Neutron (PaN) facilities. The modalities of implementation of this framework across facilities are examined and current practices and tools for metadata capture, storage and exposure are highlighted. This work is also the occasion to examine the commonalities of the framework with other initiatives developed inside and outside ExPaNDS such as the common search API, the data catalogues (ExPaNDS WP3), the EOSC discovery platforms B2FIND and OpenAire as well as the NeXus data format. It also provides the reader with guidelines on current tools and schemata available to record provenance and digital preservation information. The essence of these discussions is summarised as a list of practical recommendations at the end.

Speaker: Dr Ferenc Borondics, SMIS Beamline Manager, SOLEIL, France
Infrared spectroscopy has been in scientists’ toolbox for more than a century to obtain information about vibrational properties and low energy electrodynamics of materials. The beginning of the 80s brought the first commercial infrared microscopes to look into fine details. Far-field infrared spectromicroscopy had been pushed to its limits in the 90s at synchrotron facilities by exploiting the unrivaled quality of synchrotron radiation, i.e., low angular divergence and extremely high bandwidth. Synchrotron infrared spectromicroscopy beamlines provide diffraction-limited spatial resolution covering the whole IR range and enable experiments impossible otherwise. Later, the implementation of two-dimensional IR detectors allowed hyperspectral imaging of large samples with high spatial resolution. The turn of the century brought the advent of near-field IR techniques breaking through the diffraction limit. Combining high-brightness IR sources with atomic force microscopes to detect photothermal expansion or near-field scattering allows measurements hundreds of times below the diffraction limit reaching as high as ten-nanometer spatial resolution. Optically sampled photothermal spectromicroscopy has recently become available to bridge the resolution gap between the nanometer and micrometer range. We combine these techniques at the SMIS beamline to enable six orders of magnitude spatial dynamic range in infrared spectromicroscopy and support scientific discovery by exploiting the synchrotron source through commercial and custom instrumentation. In this talk, I will highlight discoveries made by SMIS staff and users enabled by the beamline’s capability and comment on the benefits of emerging, alternative sources.
