Isabella of Portugal and Elisabeth of Valois were two queens consort in the Hispanic Monarchy of the Major Habsburgs who constituted two different models of queen consort in the Hispanic kingdoms. In this way, both consorts had true power and influence, exercising two crucial roles in favor of the stability of the Hispanic Monarchy. On the one hand, Empress Isabella of Portugal, wife of Emperor Charles V, established the model of Queen Regent with political and administrative power through delegated sovereignty. On the other hand, Queen Elisabeth of Valois, wife of King Philip II, represented the model of Queen of Peace with diplomatic influence acting as a nexus of union between two states, the Kingdom of France and the Hispanic Monarchy, through informal mediation. Furthermore, the role of both queens consort was also crucial to dynastic continuity, since both left an important dynastic legacy to their descendants.
