UmbrellaID Workshop: Keycloak https://pan-training.eu/materials/umbrellaid-workshop-keycloak This one day training is dedicated to the PaN community IT people that want to enable community AAI for their users. At the end of the training it is expected that you understand what UmbrellaID and the EOSC AAI federation is. A hands on session shall demonstrate how to integrate your services with UmbrellaID using Keycloak. If you want to actively participate in the hands on session, you need to have your own Keycloak installation, see the following checklist. If you don't have that, you can still participate in the workshop and also take part in the hands on session as an observer. Checklist for the hands on session: - An installation of Keycloak - Internet access from the host where they have installed Keycloak (ideally direct access, but HTTP proxy and reverse HTTP proxy are also valid) - DNS resolution for the host with Keycloak installed should be in place and should be identical from everywhere (I.E. the machine should be referenced with the same domain name from the RI/lab intranet and public internet network) - A valid X509 server certificate The session recordings can be found here: 1. https://umbrellaid.org/zoom/2022-05-03-UmbrellaID-Workshop-Session-1.mp4 2. https://umbrellaid.org/zoom/2022-05-03-UmbrellaID-Workshop-Session-2.mp4 UmbrellaID PaN Community

Self-evaluation Photon and Neutron RIs for FAIR data certification https://pan-training.eu/materials/self-evaluation-photon-and-neutron-ris-for-fair-data-certification This ExPaNDS project deliverable describes a FAIR self-assessment undertaken by the ten ExPaNDS partner Photon and Neutron Research Infrastructures (PaN RIs) over the three-month period July – September 2022. After reviewing selected examples of existing FAIR evaluation frameworks designed to enable assessment at different levels (dataset, repository, and organisation), the report describes the evaluation approach adopted for the ExPaNDS FAIR self-assessment. As no existing framework met our specific need to focus on FAIR workflows and processes in PaN RIs, it was necessary to select, combine, and adapt existing frameworks. Supported by four underlying guiding principles, our approach drew heavily on the FAIR Principles, the RDA FAIR Data Maturity Model, and FAIRsFAIR’s CoreTrustSeal+FAIRenabling framework. Post-evaluation feedback from ExPaNDS partners indicated that they found the FAIR self-assessment a useful and valuable exercise for understanding current levels of FAIRness at their facilities and for articulating what implementations they have in progress or planned to support FAIR in future. A key output of the ExPaNDS FAIR evaluation is the collected self-assessment reports from the ten partner facilities. These reports are published openly and in full as part of the deliverable. In addition, the self-assessments are supplemented with some high-level observations on the state of the FAIR journey across the ExPaNDS facilities. Virtual Infrastructure for Scientific Analysis (VISA) Workshop https://pan-training.eu/materials/virtual-infrastructure-for-scientific-analysis-visa-workshop We invite you to view our workshop – hosted jointly by ExPaNDS and PaNOSC! VISA provides remote data analysis services giving access to experimental data, analysis software, compute infrastructure and expert-user support (IT and Scientific). The online half-day Workshop is open to all external stakeholders (especially scientists and IT staff but not limited to). We aim to demonstrate to beamline scientists the possibilities offered by VISA for data analysis and gathering IT staff around the table to discuss about the development and further deployment of the platform. VISA has been developed at a critical time (during the COVID-19 crisis) to answer data analysis needs and allowing remote instrument control. It provides simplified access for scientists to data analysis tools, offers remote support to users from experts and allows them to remotely control their experiments with the assistance of on-site instrument scientists. VISA allows a user to use the Remote Desktop as if they were sitting in front a data treatment workstation at the host institute and embeds JupyterLab directly accessible from the same platform interface. Initially developed at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France and further deployed in the context of PaNOSC, VISA enables the PaN research infrastructures (PaN RIs) to work together on further scientific collaborations to solve 21st century challenges. The first session of the workshop showcases the implementation of VISA at the PaN RIs through ExPaNDS and PaNOSC partner’ demos and illustrate its use for scientific users and others. The second session in the afternoon focuses on presentations on VISA development and deployment (on OpenStack and other infrastructures), paving the way for a roundtable discussion on the future of VISA: sustainability and future collaborations. Video recording (direct link to vimeo) will be available soon. VISA, expands, PaNOSC, remote data analysis services

Final recommendations for FAIR Photon and Neutron Data Management https://pan-training.eu/materials/final-recommendations-for-fair-photon-and-neutron-data-management The present deliverable pursues the work initiated in ExPaNDS deliverable 2.2, which established a common metadata framework for FAIR data generated in Photon and Neutron (PaN) facilities. The modalities of implementation of this framework across facilities are examined and current practices and tools for metadata capture, storage and exposure are highlighted. This work is also the occasion to examine the commonalities of the framework with other initiatives developed inside and outside ExPaNDS such as the common search API, the data catalogues (ExPaNDS WP3), the EOSC discovery platforms B2FIND and OpenAire as well as the NeXus data format. It also provides the reader with guidelines on current tools and schemata available to record provenance and digital preservation information. The essence of these discussions is summarised as a list of practical recommendations at the end. expands, wp2-ExPaNDS, FAIR, data management PaN Community

European Photon and Neutron Open Data Search Portal https://pan-training.eu/materials/european-photon-and-neutron-open-data-search-portal The European Photon and Neutron sources are working together in the PaNOSC and ExPaNDS projects financed by the European Commission to build the European Open Science Cloud. One of the main objectives of the EOSC is to make Open Data from these facilities FAIR. This portal implements the F(indable) part of FAIR via a **federated search engine** from the following facilities: - European Spallation Source - Institut Laue Langevin - MAX IV Additional facilities will be included in the federated search as their search engines come online locally. The goal is to include all photon and neutron facilites who provide open data by the end of the two projects PaNOSC and ExPaNDS. The mission of the PaN data search portal is to contribute to the realization of a data commons for Neutron and Photon science. The search results provide a link to the landing page of the data DOIs through which the other data services provided by PaNOSC and ExPaNDS for data downloading, analysis, notebooks and simulation can be accessed. The aim of the portal is to facilitate using data from photon and neutron sources for the many scientists from existing and future disciplines. To achieve this aim, the exchange of know-how and experiences is crucial to driving a change in culture by embracing Open Science among the targeted scientific communities. This is why the project works closely with the national photon and neutron sources in Europe to develop common policies, strategies and solutions in the area of FAIR data policy, data management and data services.
